Research Group 1: Sports Medicine
The Research Group Sports Medicine covers the disciplines of sports medicine and health sciences in teaching and research. In order to meet this requirement, we work in an interdisciplinary team consisting of sports scientists, physicians and natural scientists.
In teacher training, our field of work covers sports medicine courses in the context of performance and health on the following topics:
- Human anatomy and physiology
- Sports medicine and health-oriented assessments
- Exercise and sport in the context of prevention and rehabilitation of diseases
- quantitative research methods
In addition, we offer students of the TU Dortmund and other national and international universities the opportunity to actively participate in research within the framework of our research projects in order to gain insights and to write their theses.
We are currently working on the development of a research-oriented, scientific Master's program (M. Sc.), which will focus, among other things, on sports science research in the context of clinical studies. The program is scheduled to begin with the completion of our new building in 2024.
Our research area focuses on the influence of acute and chronic exercise paradigms on the immune system in healthy and clinical populations, with a particular emphasis on people with multiple sclerosis and tumor diseases. With our work, we aim to contribute to the understanding of physiological and biological mechanisms of physical exercise, to generate evidence and to optimize exercise recommendations. At the same time, our translational intervention studies aim to reduce the symptoms and side effects of patients and improve their quality of life in the long term. In addition to modern equipped sports medicine and molecular medicine laboratories, our research group also has a training center. Since interdisciplinary research depends on teamwork, we are glad to be part of an excellent local, national and international network of cooperation partners. Under Research you will find a detailed description of ongoing research projects, as well as a comprehensive, up-to-date list of publications.
If you would like to participate as a study participant, we invite you to register for our participant pool .
