Research Group 1: Sports Medicine

Welcome to the website of the “Sports Medicine” research group!

At the Institute for Sport and Sport Science, we cover the disciplines of sports medicine, exercise physiology and health sciences in both, teaching and research. In order to meet this requirement, we work in an interdisciplinary team consisting of sports scientists, doctors and natural scientists. In addition to state-of-the-art sports medicine examination rooms and molecular medicine laboratories, our research group also has a training center.

Our research focuses on the topics of sports immunology, tryptophan metabolism and the use of AI-based methods in performance physiology. With our work, we want to contribute to understanding the physiological and biological mechanisms of physical activity, exercise and training. Building on this, we aim to optimize exercise recommendations for the prevention and rehabilitation of illnesses and injury prophylaxis based on evidence. In addition to healthy individuals and competitive athletes, our work focuses particularly on specific clinical populations, including but not limited to people with multiple sclerosis and tumor diseases. Under research you will find a more detailed description of the individual subject areas and research projects, as well as a current list of publications. In terms of translation, we also offer various sports science and medical services (e.g. health check-up, performance diagnostics, training planning, nutritional advice, MS sports consultation.

If you are interested in participating in our research projects as a study participant or would like to make use of our services, please contact us. In addition, we offer students from TU Dortmund University and other national and international universities the opportunity to actively participate in our research projects in order to gain insights and write their theses.
