Culture and society

This field of work considers sport as a section of social and cultural reality. Teaching and research focus primarily on the analysis and interpretation of the social, political, economic, historical and cultural conditioning factors as well as on the manifold social meanings, functions and effects of sport. The questions and perspectives related to the connection between sport and society are treated in particular by a social science-oriented sports science that focuses on humans as social beings. The subject matter ranges from the individual perspectives, considered in terms of their social characteristics and behaviours, to interaction processes in sports groups or to comparative analyses of sports in different societies.
